Location

Shorefields cottage is located in the beautiful village of Portnalong and is close to the centre of the Isle of Skye. The location is ideal for excursions into the Cuillin mountains as well as reaching other parts of the island. Portree the "capital" of Skye is approximately 20 miles from the cottage.

Directions

The Skye bridge: After crossing the now toll free Skye bridge take the third exit towards Broadford and Portree. Follow A87 road for 24 miles to Sligachan and turn left towards Dunvegan on the A863. Follow this road for 5 miles then turn left on the B8009 towards Carbost and the Talisker distillery. Continue on this road, past the turning to Glenbrittle on the left. At the distillery follow the windy single track road for 3 1/2 miles through Fernilea to Portnalong. Shorefield Cottage is half way through the village on the right-hand side past the village pub.

Glenelg and the Skye ferry (April to October only): If driving from Inverness or Fort William, turn left over the bridge at Shiel Bridge and follow the windy single-track road over the spectacular Ratagan pass. In Glenelg, turn right at the crossroads and follow the signs to the unique six-car turntable Skye ferry. The ferry runs from April to October approximately every 20 minutes and no booking is neccessary. On arriving on Skye, follow the winding single track road for seven miles over a mountain pass and then turn left on the A87 towards Broadford and Portree. Follow A87 road for 20 miles to Sligachan and turn left towards Dunvegan on the A863. Follow this road for 5 miles then turn left on the B8009 towards Carbost and the Talisker distillery. Continue on this road, past the turning to Glenbrittle on the left. At the distillery follow the windy single track road for 3 1/2 miles through Fernilea to Portnalong. Shorefield Cottage is half way through the village on the right-hand side past the village pub.

Please check signs to confirm ferry is running prior to turning onto the Glenelg road as the ferry is occasionally cancelled due to poor weather.

The Mallaig - Armadale Ferry: On arriving at Armadale on Skye from the Mallaig ferry follow the A851 for 14 miles towards Broadford and Portree. On reaching the A87 turn left into Broadford village and continue towards Sligachan. Follow the A87 for 20 miles to Sligachan and turn left towards Dunvegan on the A863. Follow this road for 5 miles then turn left on the B8009 towards Carbost and the Talisker distillery. Continue on this road past the turning to Glenbrittle on the left. At the distillery, follow the windy single track road for 3 1/2 miles through Fernilea to Portnalong. Shorefield Cottage is half way through the village on the right-hand side past the village pub.
